Some folks like a vehicle that shouts its perceived capability to the world. Others prefer a machine that's quiet about what it can do, leaving only the owner aware of what they've got on their hands. You might not think a vehicle like that exists in the one-ton truck space, but Ford offers just such a thing.

For 2027, Ford F-350 Super Duty shoppers have a relatively quiet and inexpensive way to turn their work machines into off-road-capable rigs. You just need to start with an XL-grade truck and check the box labeled XL Off-Road 35-Inch Tire Package.

Now you have a hefty rig with Tremor capability minus the decals—and the equally hefty price jump.

Automotive content creator Nick Jaynes picked up one heck of a heavy-duty rig. He wanted the capabilities of a Tremor but couldn't stomach the prices he found online, often running around $86,000 or more.

Jaynes turned to the base F-350 XL trim instead, where there's an option box you can check way down on the order sheet. It's called the XL Off-Road 35-Inch Tire Package, and it costs just $2,995.

For that, you add an impressive array of features:

You can only spec this package on the XL trim, and Jaynes calls it part of Ford's "secret menu." But the reality is that Ford themselves announced this very package back in March of 2026.

Ford created this option for business and government agencies looking for capable (relatively) affordable one-ton trucks that didn't have badges and decals slapped all over the place. Often those trucks get covered up with work liveries anyway, so the decals and badges just get in the way.

The good news for those of us not buying a truck for fleet purposes is that you can spec this truck for your own personal use.

Jaynes found one for sale, already ordered how he wanted it, on a lot in Nebraska. He flew out to pick it up and drove off with his own non-Tremor Tremor for around $64,000. I built one online to see what it looks like if you order one yourself, and found you can do it for just over $60,000. I added the Neptune Blue paint for $395.

You could save that bit by keeping the truck fleet White at no added cost.

What do you think?

We definitely give Jaynes props for highlighting this build option, and for putting his money where his mouth is. But it's not exactly a "hidden" build option; Ford announced the package availability early this year, but only now has the truck reached dealer lots.

That said, Ford should tout the option more and pitch it to overlanders as the perfect starting rig for a truly rough-and-ready adventure vehicle. It looks awesome.
