Subscribers of Charter Communications‘ higher-end Spectrum TV plans now have access to Warner Bros. Discovery’s Discovery+ for no extra charge.

Of course, much of the content on Discovery+ (but not all) is already available through WBD’s HBO Max, which also is currently available to the same Spectrum TV customers. For example, Discovery+ includes 63 seasons of Food Network food-competition series “Chopped,” while HBO Max currently has just 10 episodes from the most recent season.

Discovery+ offers a lineup of programming from networks including HGTV, Food Network, TLC, Investigation Discovery and Animal Planet. The content includes reality shows “90 Day Fiancé,” “House Hunters,” “Chopped” and “1000-Lb Sisters,” adventure and documentary programs like “Gold Rush,” “Expedition Unknown,” “Ghost Adventures,” “Ghost Brothers” and “Planet Earth,” and lifestyle shows such as “Magnolia Table With Joanna Gaines.”

Eligible Spectrum TV customers can activate ad-supported Discovery+, which retails for $5.99 per month, for no extra cost. Customers can also upgrade to the ad-free version of Discovery+, which retails for $9.99 per month, by paying the $4 difference. Spectrum customers without an eligible TV plan can use The Spectrum App Store to purchase Discovery+ (and other streaming apps) à la carte.

Charter’s lineup of apps bundled with Spectrum TV plans are available with TV Select plans and higher, for residential customers only. Those are the ad-supported versions of the following streaming services: the Disney+/Hulu bundle, ESPN Unlimited, HBO Max Basic With Ads, Paramount+ Essential, Peacock Premium, AMC+, ViX, Tennis Channel and Fox One.

All together, Charter claims those represent “more than $125 per month in retail streaming value.” However, the bundling of Discovery+ and the other streamers with Spectrum TV isn’t exactly “free”: Charter incorporates the wholesale cost of those into the overall price of the service.

“The inclusion of Discovery+ extends the value Spectrum TV delivers to customers with more choice and flexibility in what and how to watch,” said Tom Montemagno, EVP of programming acquisition at Charter’s Spectrum. “We’re meeting customers wherever they are by bringing live TV and streaming together so they can enjoy Discovery+ and other popular apps without managing separate subscriptions and with built-in cost savings.”

Scott Miller, president, networks and streaming distribution at Warner Bros. Discovery, added, “By making Discovery+ available as part of Spectrum TV Select and giving customers without a traditional TV plan the ability to purchase à la carte, we’re extending the reach of our world-class portfolio and making it even more convenient for fans to watch their favorite home, food, true crime, relationships and lifestyle programming as part of their existing Spectrum experience.”
