The biggest news regarding the 2027 Chevrolet Corvette is what sits behind the driver. GM’s new 6.7-liter LS6 V-8 powers the Stingray, Grand Sport, and Grand Sport X; it produces 535 horsepower and 520 pound-feet of torque, providing a healthy upgrade over the outgoing 6.2-liter LT2. Unfortunately, the LS6 may also have picked up a less desirable trait. According to a recent GM service bulletin, some 2027 Corvettes equipped with the new engine may develop an oil leak.

Last month, GM issued service bulletin PIP6132, which covers all 2027 Corvettes with the new LS6 engine. According to the bulletin, some owners or technicians may notice engine oil underneath the vehicle. Upon closer inspection, they may find a small leak between the oil pan and oil-cooler adapter. With the engine running, bubbling may also be visible around the front or rear mounting locations of the oil-cooler adapter.

Obviously, that’s not ideal. Nobody wants to see drops of oil underneath their brand-new $73,795-plus Corvette. Thankfully, the fix sounds relatively straightforward: GM instructs technicians to replace two oil-pan high-pressure port seals located between the oil pan and oil-cooler adapter. However, the company stresses the importance of making sure the four oil-cooler adapter bolts are evenly tightened and in the proper sequence to prevent additional leaks.

It’s important to note that this is a service bulletin, and not a recall. The bulletin is intended to give technicians a clear repair procedure if they encounter the problem. Owners who discover an oil leak should therefore let their Chevrolet dealer handle the repair, rather than breaking out the tools themselves.

GM has issued the following statement regarding the oil leak issue: We are aware of stories covering service bulletin PIP6132, regarding a potential oil-leak condition on certain Corvette vehicles equipped with the LS6 V8 engine. A limited number of engines may be affected, but the issue has been addressed. The service bulletin reinforces guidance for service departments that may encounter this condition. As always, customers with questions or concerns about their vehicle should contact their Chevrolet dealer for assistance. Chevrolet is committed to the quality and reliability of its vehicles and will provide additional information if warranted.

There’s a lot of excitement surrounding the LS6 and GM’s other new V-8s, so any issue with the new engine is going to attract attention. Hopefully, once these troublesome seals are replaced, the latest Corvette small-block will provide owners with many trouble-free miles.
