Honda is reported to have pushed back production of the redesigned CR-V by about three months. Supply-chain sources point to a 2027 start rather than the previously planned late-2026 timing. The automaker has also dropped plans to build the next Civic sedan in Indiana.
The shift affects two of Honda's highest-volume nameplates in North America. For CR-V shoppers and Civic owners, the reports point to long-term production reshuffles rather than an immediate squeeze on dealer inventory.

A supply-chain source cited by Automotive News reports that Honda delayed production of the redesigned CR-V by three months. Some summaries describe the new plan as a March 2027 start. Other reporting mentions mass production beginning in April 2027 and hybrid output in the United States from May 2027 or later.
Honda also reportedly trimmed first-year output of the next-generation CR-V hybrid by 6.7 percent. Public summaries of the supply-chain reporting don't disclose a specific unit count. The cut suggests Honda plans a slower initial build instead of a big launch surge.
Current coverage describes CR-V sales in 2026 as strong, with tight dealer inventories compared with many rivals. That context makes it easier for Honda to run the existing CR-V longer while it adjusts timing for the redesigned model.
Honda has separately laid out plans to expand hybrid and future electric vehicle production, including retooling several plants in Ohio. The supply-chain reports on the CR-V delay don't tie the timing shift directly to that strategy or to any specific engineering issue.

Honda dropped plans to build the next-generation Civic sedan at its Greensburg, Indiana plant, where production had been slated to begin in May 2028, according to the same supply-chain reporting. Public summaries of the plan change don't give a targeted annual Civic sedan volume for the factory.
For now, coverage of the reports says Civic sedan production for North America continues in Ontario, Canada. The Indiana decision mainly affects where a future Civic sedan would have been built, not the current supply of Civic sedans.
The cancellation arrives as Honda continues to offer Civic performance variants such as the current Civic Type R. Separate reports have noted constrained Civic Si availability at times, but Honda hasn't issued a formal statement.
Neither the CR-V timing shift nor the Indiana Civic sedan decision has been confirmed in a public statement from Honda. Both remain based on supply-chain reporting that gives a range of possible CR-V start dates and a clear indication that the Indiana Civic plan is off the table.
What do you think?
Motor1 reached out to Honda to confirm the report, and the automaker provided the following statement:
Honda has not announced any information on future CR-V model changes, so we cannot comment on speculation about launch timing. We are pleased to continue production of the current 2027 CR-V to meet strong customer demand and help replenish dealer inventories. Dealer inventory currently stands at approximately a 17-day supply, well below our ideal level. Regarding Civic, that information was not released by Honda and we don’t speculate on future production plans.
