Every month, Ford publishes its sales report, which gives us insight into just how many Broncos, Rangers, and F-150s the Blue Oval has built over the past few months. This month, we're taking a closer look at Ford Mustang sales, particularly the hugely powerful (and pricey) GTD.
In total, Ford has produced just over 39,000 Mustangs through August. The GTD accounts for a shockingly small fraction of those vehicles. In the first eight months of 2026, Ford produced just 384 Mustang GTD coupes. That's just shy of 1.0 percent of overall Mustang production—0.986 percent, to be exact.
So far this year, Ford has made 38,946 Mustang EcoBoosts, GTs, and Dark Horses, by comparison.
GTD production peaked in June with 58 models rolling off the line, one more than in July. That number dipped to 50 units in August. Ford started building the exclusive Mustang last year, building a total of 271 in all of 2025.

Ford introduced the Mustang GTD in 2023 as the road-legal version of its Mustang GT3 race car. It has an 815-horsepower supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine, an eight-speed dual-clutch transaxle, and a carbon-fiber driveshaft connecting the two.
The powertrain is impressive enough, but the GTD also features a semi-active suspension. The rear inboard pushrods are visible from the cabin through the bulkhead. The rear seats are gone, and there’s zero trunk space, but this isn’t your everyday sports car.
It uses extensive carbon fiber to reduce weight and is available with an aerodynamics package. The GTD starts at over $325,000, and interested buyers must apply before they can buy one.

Motor1’s Take: The Mustang GTD might grab all the headlines because it is an incredible machine, but it’s the EcoBoosts and GTs that keep the car’s cult status alive—and the lights on at Flat Rock Assembly. With production numbers like these, the GTD is bound to be one of the rarest Mustangs ever.
