UPDATE 10/9/26: Porsche posted a second Instagram teaser for the Mission S, this time revealing an 8000-rpm redline for the concept car. Unfortunately, there’s still no confirmation of what the powertrain actually is, and since the teaser doesn’t include any exhaust notes, we don’t have any additional audio clues either.
Porsche has something of a revenue problem. With profits falling from a touch under $6 billion in 2024 to just $101 million in 2025, Porsche needs to get its pocketbook in order. According to Porsche CEO Michael Leiters, part of the company’s plan to balance its ledger includes a new mid-engine supercar. While details are still scant, we’ve now gotten our first teaser of that supercar.
Porsche’s teaser is for a concept car called the Mission S that will preview the actual production supercar. Rumors suggest that the production version will be powered by a flat-eight engine, while Porsche confirmed that the Mission S’s architecture will allow for a full model line positioned above the 911, which has served as the brand’s golden goose for several decades.
While Porsche has dabbled (rather successfully) in halo cars in the past, the brand has never unseated the 911 from its place at the top of its lineup, making the prospect of the Mission S monumental. Assuming that’s the route Porsche takes, the new car could be positioned against the likes of the Ferrari 849 Testarossa and the McLaren 750S. The Mission S is scheduled to be revealed on October 15, at which point we will hopefully learn more about the future supercar.

Jack Fitzgerald’s love for cars stems from his as yet unshakable addiction to Formula 1. After a brief stint as a detailer for a local dealership group in college, he knew he needed a more permanent way to drive all the new cars he couldn’t afford and decided to pursue a career in auto writing. By hounding his college professors at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, he was able to travel Wisconsin seeking out stories in the auto world before landing his dream job at Car and Driver. His new goal is to delay the inevitable demise of his 2010 Volkswagen Golf.
