McLaren is gearing up for some big changes in the next few years. After going through some ownership shakeups over the past several years, the British sports car manufacturer is preparing to launch several new models while it tries to improve its global brand image. According to a report by Automotive News, the first of those new models will be a hybrid coupe, which is scheduled to arrive next year.

Codenamed P34, the new model will source its power from a twin-turbocharged V-6. That’ll be connected to a hybrid system as well as a transmission that the automaker has been developing in-house. Like every McLaren, the P34 will take on a mid-engine layout, with the engine located between the cabin and the rear wheels.

Word on the street is that the P34 will be positioned between the Artura and the 750S—though a replacement for the latter could be coming down the pipeline in the next few years as well. The combined power is said to come out to around 810 ponies, one McLaren dealer told AN, making it even more powerful than the V-8-powered 750S.

Dealers who attended a private meeting with the automaker described the car to AN as being longer than the Artura and sporting a leading edge similar to the McLaren F1’s wedge design. According to the dealers, the engine will be housed under a tempered-glass cover, while the interior will take on a more luxurious design than much of the current lineup.

The switch to a more luxury-focused interior, one with leather seats, a large infotainment screen, and a more modern digital gauge cluster, is part of McLaren CEO Nick Collins’ goal of improving the image and status of the brand on a global level. “I want to be the brand that people are talking about — the products that people are falling in love with,” the executive told the outlet in August. “I’m not sitting there going, ‘In the U.S. in 24 months, we want to sell X vehicles.’ I want the enthusiasm, the engagement, the awareness growing over that period of time.” Those luxury trappings will likely also be found on the four-door McLaren expected to arrive on the heels of the P34, as McLaren dips its toes into the super SUV world.

Pricing for the P34 is expected to start around $315,000, with McLaren planning to build roughly 1000 examples in the first year. Deliveries are expected to start in the late summer of next year.
